Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Foundation

Established in 1978, the Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Foundation is dedicated to supporting education and scientific research in Turkey and to preserving and promoting the country’s cultural and artistic production.

Towards these ends, the Foundation has created a Modern Turkish Painting Collection and, since 1987, provides grants to outstanding young musicians to facilitate their graduate musical studies abroad. It also supports two public schools in Istanbul and İzmir established by the Eczacıbaşı Group as well as several research and development institutions.

Since 1988, the Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Foundation has supported design in Turkey through the Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Foundation Young Designer of the Year Special Award, presented annually by the Turkish Society of Graphic Designers (GMK) to an exceptional graphic designer.

The Foundation is a long standing supporter of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and the Izmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education, which strive to position their two cities among the world capitals of culture and the arts and create a continual and permanent exchange between values that are global and national, traditional and modern.

From its earliest days, the Foundation has played a central role in the preparation of the Eczacıbaşı Group’s annual photography publication, a tradition that spans more than 40 years. Since 2010, when this publication became the Eczacıbaşı Photographers Series, it has introduced art enthusiasts to comprehensive retrospectives of work by Turkey’s leading photographic artists.

The Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Foundation supports high caliber medical and pharmaceutical research in Turkey through the “Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Medical Awards”. Originally called the Eczacıbaşı Scientific Research and Medical Award Fund, this longstanding Eczacıbaşı Group tradition established in 1959 received its current name in 2013 in memory of Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı, who passed away 20 years earlier.
